Learning Spanish doesn’t have to be difficult. There are a number of ways you can learn Spanish at your own pace, on your own time. Many people choose to use a CD or a DVD to go through lessons when they have free time. There are a wide range of these instructional courses available on the internet, such as Amazon.com and Ebay.com.
However, there are also more nontraditional ways to learn which you may not have thought of. What about volunteering somewhere with a significant population of Spanish speakers? Consider a blood bank, homeless shelter, soup kitchen, or anywhere there are people in need who also speak Spanish. In this way, you’ll be able to give back to the community and teach yourself Spanish at the same time. Another option to learn Spanish is to travel to a Latino grocery store, if there is one in your neighborhood and you like that sort of food. You can converse with other patrons of the store, practice your pronunciation, and learn new words while cooking fabulous food.
Learning Spanish can be a lot of fun…many larger urban areas have festivals and days of cultural celebration. Attend these and you are sure to pick up a great deal of knowledge, not just vocabulary but cultural information as well. Offer to be an ESL (English as a Second Language) volunteer for a family in your area…you likely won’t need much in the way of Spanish ability but the family will teach you as you teach them. In this way, a nice reciprocal relationship is formed. So you see, there are many exciting ways to learn Spanish – it doesn’t have to be dull – you are limited only by your imagination!
